Bottled Water
Bottled water has become the rage with sports enthusiasts, business people, moms and students. That popularity is causing problems in land fills, and is causing lots of petroleum to be used to make the plastic bottles that are being connected to health problems. The idea of drinking lots of water is a good one; we all need clean, pure water to drink. Consider filtered water in a stainless steel water bottle as the way to get your minimum daily, clean water supply.
How many times a day do you see someone carrying around bottled water as they go through their day? Bottled water has gained a great deal of popularity over the last decade. Most people believe that the bottled water is safer for them to drink than the water from their faucets, but this may not be true. Learning more about bottled water and the good and bad points of it can help you determine whether it is a good choice for you and your family. What are some of the good points about bottled water?
- Convenience
It is very convenient to grab bottled water from the refrigerator to take outside, to work, or to simply drink inside your home. This convenience is why many people turn to bottled water, rather than simply getting it from their sink faucet. - Safer than tap water
This point is widely contested by many different groups, but in some areas, it may actually be safer than tap water. It would all depend upon the contaminants that are in the water that you get out of your faucet.
Over 40 billion gallons of bottled water are sold each and every year and that number continues to rise. The safety of bottled water compared tap water is highly contested through many different research studies. What are some of the cons of bottled water that you should consider?
- Unfriendly to the environment
Think about how many billions of plastic bottles are thrown away, rather than recycled. The landfills are full of these bottles that don't decompose. The other problem is that the oil that is used to make these bottles equals 1.5 million barrels each year and this amount of oil could fuel as many as 100,000 cars for a year. So even if the bottles are recycled, they are consuming a non-renewable resource. As you can see, these bottles are very unfriendly to the environment. - Unfriendly to the user
Yes, the bottled water is easy to tote around when you go to work, school, or anywhere else, but it may be bad for you. Some research studies have found that the plastic from the bottles may leach toxins into your water, which can have several different health impacts. The NRDC (National Resources Defense Council) recently did a study that included 1,000 bottles of water from 103 different manufacturers. Of these bottles, one-third of them were found to be contaminated with pollutants such as bacteria, synthetic organic chemicals, and arsenic. This is dangerous for people who have a weakened immune system, including the elderly, HIV/AIDS patients, the very young, and cancer or other disease patients. - Cost
It is much more expensive to purchase bottled water than simply refilling a reusable bottle with the water that comes out of your tap. If saving money is important to you, then you may want to consider purchasing a reusable bottle to use for convenience. The bottled water can be costing you up to 500 times more than the water from your faucet would.
Bottled water is convenient and, in some cases, it may taste better than the water out of your faucet. The thing that you want to remember, however, is that a faucet-mounted water filter can help your water to taste better and it can remove any toxins. Dispense filtered water into a stainless steel water bottle and save money while you enjoy clear and clean drinking water. Reconsider all of the bottled water that you are drinking. It is bad for the environment and it may not be as healthy for you as you might think. You can save your health and your money.
