Effects of Car Pollution

Water pollution is one of the side effects of car pollution. To protect your water resources so you have great water quality, be careful about your role in car pollution. Some of the issues are surprising.

Pollution is prevalent around the world. Cars are impacting our environment by increasing water and air pollutions, and they are closely linked to the other types of pollutio as well. What are some of the effects of car pollution?

Car pollution impacts the water sources in the world. Water pollution is not something people pay a lot attention to or know much about, but it is a huge problem. Car pollution affects the water in many different ways, including:

  • Nitrogen Oxide
The chemical balance of nutrients in the water is upset with too much nitrogen oxide, which causes problems with the plants and animals that are dependent on water. It also reduces fish and shellfish populations.
  • Oil Disposal
Not properly disposing of the oil you change in the car has a huge impact on water. One quart of oil can contaminate thousands of gallons of water, because oil doesn't dissipate or dissolve in the water. Don't dump your oil on the land or in your trash. Dispose of it via a gas station or oil change shop to help make sure the oil doesn't get into your local water sources.
  • Particulates
Particulates that are released into the air via car exhaust can have an impact upon the precipitation that an area gets. Research has found that it can reduce rainfall, which impacts the water resources in your location.
  • Toxins and De-greasing Agents
These products may be used to clean and take care of your car, but some of them cause huge problems in water sources, including contamination of drinking water, an overgrowth of algae, and contamination of fish and aquatic life. Each of these problems can cause problems to humans, because we eat and drink from these resources.

Car pollution has an effect on air quality too. Exhaust from fuel usage in various transportations modes adds numerous harmful substances into the air, including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides. They have some major effects on the air like:

  • Carbon Dioxide
The impact of this pollutant is that it traps heat in the earth and it contributes to the greenhouse effect. This is a big contributor to global warming, which causes numerous problems across the world, including an increase in sea levels, changes in precipitation, extinction of some animals, and glaciers melting.
  • Carbon Monoxide
This pollutant can cause severe health issues all over the body. The most common issues seen are respiratory problems, nervous system disorders, and cardiovascular problems. It also contributes to the formation of ozone, which causes severe respiratory and environmental effects.
  • Hydrocarbons
Hydrocarbons are a big contributor to ground level ozone, a big problem in many cities around the world. The hydrocarbons are involved in a chemical reaction with sunlight and nitrogen oxide that causes ozone. Ozone causes significant health issues and environmental problems.
  • Nitrogen Oxides
This by-product of car pollution has a big affect on the environment and the air. This includes the formation of ozone, acid rain, particulate pollution, climate changes, and it can cause visibility problems.

As you can see, the effects of car pollution are far-reaching. Be sure that you keep this in mind each time you get behind the wheel of your car. Safeguard your water supplies so you have clean water to drink.
