Hague Quality Water

Hague Quality Water doesn't refer to water in The Hague, in the Netherlands, but to a brand of water treatment products. The developer of these products recognized that waste was too prevalent among other water softener and purifying products, so has developed a series of products that conserve water, salt and other materials. If you want to drink pure water, clear of water pollution and contaminates, consider improving your water quality with one of the products from this line.

Hague Quality Water, International, manufactures and distributes water softeners and reverse osmosis water filters for residential and commercial water treatment uses. Based in Groveport, Ohio, Hague Quality Water distributes its products through a network of independently-owned dealers throughout the United States and Canada.

William R. Hague was selling Kirby vacuum cleaners in the late 1950s. Then, at a trade show, he met a dealer for another water treatment company. Hague bought his own dealership in Columbus, Ohio, building a sales organization that rented home water treatment equipment. (From this account, we may surmise that Hague was selling for Culligan.)

In the 1970s, Hague decided to manufacture his own water treatment equipment, hoping to make it better and more reliable than that which he was selling. He recruited other dealerships and built a strong regional water treatment company. Within a few years, Hague Quality Water was well established nationwide, and a larger manufacturing facility was built in Groveport, Ohio.

Hague ordered a complete re-design of his water treatment products, "starting from a blank sheet of paper", in the mid-1980s. He wanted a water treatment system that used less salt and lasted much longer.

Hague's engineering team developed a single system that could be configured on an order-by-order basis to address a customer's specific water conditions. This all-in-one system is patented; competitors must design and install different models for different water conditions. The simplicity of manufacturing just one system translates into cost savings.

The WaterMax®, as it was named, saved salt and conserved water. Hague Quality Water's exclusive "absolute brining" technology adjusts the salt dosage to the exact amount needed for regeneration of water softening, never wasting salt or water. The WaterMax® has a solid-state systems controller that can generate soft water on demand (when a tap is turned on), by calendar settings, or by exact water usage. Once the control is set, no maintenance is needed except periodic replacement of salt or salt substitute. The only internal moving part is a piston which is encased in Teflon® for years of trouble-free use.

Hague's drinking water system is based on reverse-osmosis technology. The Model 3500 drinking water system fits under a sink and incorporates technology that increases water flow. While reverse-osmosis produces high-quality water, it can waste three gallons for every gallon of treated water produced. It seems strangely contradictory for Hague Quality Water to employ this technology.

Hague Quality Water offers dealership opportunities and support. No inventory investment is required; Hague provides showroom layouts and demo units. National Yellow Pages ads and the company’s web site steer leads to dealers. Dealers can use Hague-provided signs, van decals, brochures, print ads, and other marketing collateral materials. Water testing kits and even business forms are provided. Sales territories are exclusive, with regional and district managers to provide support.

Hague Quality Water expanded its plant twice during the last decade of the 20th century. The company seems to be growing, innovating, and fulfilling its founder's promise to make the best, most reliable water treatment system on the market.
