Replacement Water Filters

Today homes can be furnished with several different types of water filter. These include internal and external refrigerator water filters, shower filters, faucet filters, under-sink water filters and of course filtered pitchers. Each of these filtration methods require replacement water filters on a regular basis to ensure a continuous supply of clean, healthy water.

There are two main types of water filter replacements:

  • Brand name water filters that are manufactured specifically for your make of water filter

  • Generic water filters that often fit a range of models made by various manufacturers

The main difference between brand name and generic is cost, however, in some circumstances you may need to buy water filter replacement cartridges of the generic kind slightly more often than if you chose the brand name.

Each individual type of water filter replacement cartridge will have a recommended lifespan for use. So for example a Brita replacement water filter that fits into a pitcher may be good for 80 liters of drinking water whereas an internal refrigerator replacement water filter might specify a lifespan of 6 months. In areas with particularly poor water quality this lifespan will undoubtedly become decreased, so it is important to monitor the quality of your filtered water closely to ensure it remains fresh and clean.

Generic water filter replacements will also have a recommended lifespan, although this may be slightly shorter than their branded counterparts. If so, it is worth working out whether you will get more value from a slightly more expensive branded replacement water filter.

Both brand manufacturers and generic manufacturers tend to offer discounts if you buy more than one water filter replacement cartridge during a single transaction. This can be a great way to save money on an item that you are going to need continuously in the future. Also, by buying your replacement water filters in bulk you can save on the postage charges, especially when buying online.

Replacement water filter cartridges may seem like an unnecessary expense, however, they guarantee you receive sediment-free, clean water either to drink or to use in the bathroom. In addition they require very little or no maintenance and so once replaced they can be left to do their job until the time comes to replace them again.
