Water Purification

Water purification is increasingly important in our polluted society. We are exposed to so many different chemicals and pollutants, striving to drink clean water is important. Water quality is hard to gauge, unless you are a scientist, so relying on water purification at home may be the only way you truly can be assured of drinking clean water.

Although most people in the United States think that their water supply is clean and healthy for them, this is not the case. Even the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has released information that states that no matter where you are in the country, your water supply is contaminated with some type of toxic substance. This is why water purification is so important. If you are like the majority of people, you do not put much thought into the water purification system in the area where you live, but not learning more about this issue can harm your health and the health of your family. Why should you be concerned with water purification?

Some common toxic contaminants are in water. Some of these can cause severe health concerns for every member of your family, from the unborn child to the elderly. That is why it is so important to learn more about water purification, so that you can help keep yourself and all the members of your family safe. What are some of the contaminants that should concern you?

  • Biological impurities

This includes parasites, viruses, and parasites. All of these biological agents can have impacts upon your health, including minor gastrointestinal disorders and other illnesses.
  • Inorganic impurities

This includes dirt, sand, silt, salts, and clay. They make the water cloudy and the bacteria enjoy this type of impurity, because it helps to feed them and it creates a nice home for them. These impurities can also make your water more difficult to purify and keep clean for you and your family.
  • Organic impurities

These impurities are due to decaying vegetation, algae, or other organic materials. They affect the taste and odor of the water.
  • Metals

Toxic levels of metals in the water can cause many different illnesses and conditions, including birth defects, senility, and more.
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

These are compounds that are normally released into the air and they then make it into the water supply. This is one of the most common pollutants.
  • Chlorine and chloramines

These two chemicals are used in many water purification plants. They are used to purify water, but they have health effects as well. Chlorine is a known cancer-causing agent and chloramines can have a negative effect on people that are undergoing dialysis or who have kidney problems.

Water purification is very important, but even the large water treatment plants cannot remove every harmful substance from your water. That, and the purification chemicals themselves, are why many people turn to home water purification units; to make their water is as healthy and clean as possible

Home water purification units come in several different methods, including faucet mounted, pitcher, and whole home water purification units. By choosing a pitcher or faucet-mounted water purification unit, you can keep the lead out of your water that may be caused by older pipes in your home. A whole home water purification unit is mounted where the water comes into your home, which may mean that it is still coming into contact with the lead after the purification unit purifies it. That is why you need to carefully consider your water purification system.

Water purification is an issue that everyone should be concerned with. Knowledge and action are the keys to making a difference in your water and the health of you and your family. Knowledge is great, but without action, you cannot make a difference in your water and your life.
